Asphalt on its own gives you a clean surface and a soft edge. The paver border is what turns it into a finished piece of hardscape — it holds the asphalt edge from crumbling under a tyre that strays, and it draws a deliberate line between the drive and the beds instead of letting mulch and blacktop meet in a ragged seam.
On a run this long the border also does something for the eye: it follows the curve and makes the length feel intentional. The alternative, an unedged strip of asphalt disappearing between the shrubs, reads as utility rather than as part of the property.
